Brian and Katie's Story
We were married in 2003 in Minneapolis, MN. Two months later, we moved to Alaska where we held our first full-time teaching jobs in a small K-12 school outside of Denali National Park. In 2005, the Lord called us on our first mission to Nyeri, Kenya where we served at Tumaini Children's Home and taught in the local primary and secondary schools. It was then that the love of East Africa was forever placed in our hearts. Fast forward to 2017, after living in Alaska for seven years, having our two beautiful children (Carson & Aliana) and moving to Colorado, we started attending Cornerstone Church in Boulder.
In the fall of 2017, Pastor David Balabyekubo came to visit the US for the first time and came to Colorado to speak at Cornerstone Church - a partner of his ministry in Uganda. While Pastor David was speaking, both of us immediately felt the Lord telling us this would be our next service in East Africa. We signed up for a two-week mission trip to visit David in Uganda (June 2018), the Lord spoke to us again in July right after the trip and we spent the next 12 months planning to move.
One year later (July 2019) we moved to the village of Kiwungu to serve in the areas of community development. COVID-19 brought us home a little earlier than we had hoped (8 months later) but our work continues and we can't wait to meet our friends and neighbors back in Uganda again.
